Scheurebe-Rebsorte

SCHEUREBE IN THE MEES WINE ESTATE

Our fresh Scheurebe wines grow on deep terraced gravel soils in KREUZNACHER ROSENBERG.

Yield reduction and defoliation of the grape zone ensure that the grapes mature healthily on the vine for a long time and pronounced fruit aromas can develop.

WHITE WINES OF THE GRAPE VARIETY SCHEUREBE

The Scheurebe grape delivers wines of high quality, they are characterized by a riesling-like fragrance,

in which a slight nutmeg is perceptible.

The wines have an elegant acidity and a full bouquet with a typical aroma of black currant and pink grapefruit.

origin:

In 1916 the longtime head of the grape insitute Alzey in Rheinhessen, Georg Scheu, in whose honor the variety got its name,

bred a wine with the positive properties of the Silvaner, which should, however, be less susceptible to frost.

It was long believed that Scheurebe were a cross between Silvaner and Riesling.

DNA analysis, however, show that this is not the crossing between Riesling and Sylvaner,

but instead of Silvaner, it was rather an unknown or a wild grape.

The results, however are very interesting, independent wines, whose 100 years of existence, we were celebrating in 2016.
