Red Wine

PINOT NOIR AT THE MEES WINE ESTATE

The high-quality grapes for our Pinot Noir red wines and rosé wines grow on heat-storing, deep terraced gravel and clay soils in KREUZNACHER ROSENBERG and on clay marl and shell limestone soils in KREUZNACHER PARADIES. Multiple yield reductions and good ventilation of the grape area through defoliation ensure healthy, ripe grapes in the harvest. When pressed directly, the destemmed berries deliver fruity rosés with an elegant acid structure and carefully mash-fermented strong red wines, which we put in oak barrels for about 12 months, where they become harmonious and round through the oxidative aging process.

PORTUGIESER AT THE MEES WINE ESTATE

Decades ago there were only a few German red wines because of the cold climate, but the Portugieser was part of the Mees winery from the beginning of the 1970s. The sweet, light Portugieser red wine has always been an integral part of the collection. Nowadays through modern quality measures such as yield reduction and keeping the grapes healthy by defoliation we harvest high quality, fresh and fruity rosé wines and fine red wines that we ferment on the mash and mature in large oak barrels.

DORNFELDER IN THE MEES WINE ESTATE

The best quality is our aim in the production of our high-quality Dornfelder red wines. They grow in 30-year-old vineyards on deep terraced gravel soils in the KREUZNACHER ROSENBERG. Only the best ripened grapes are destemmed and carefully fermented on the mash. After fermentation, the finished red wine is pressed and placed in large oak barrels for about 12 months, where it matures harmoniously through contact with oxygen over the barrel surface.
